Google Maps really has revolutionised navigation when travelling. The directions when travelling by car are incredibly useful but if you have ever used the ‘walking’ option, you will notice that is lagging a little behind. Imagine though how much better it would be if you can access the same turn-by-turn navigation options for walking as you can when driving. Not only this though, but also the directions will be overlayed on the real-world objects in front of you!!

At their IO developer conference in May, Google announced this amazing new ‘Live View’ feature is being made available as a beta feature using augmented reality (AR) to give real-world directions.

Please Note –Β I/O brings together developers from around the globe for talks, hands-on learning with Google experts, and the first look at Google’s latest developer products.

This is currently rolling out to a variety of Android phones that support ARCore and iPhones that support ARKit, including:

Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL; the Huawei P20, P20 Pro, P30 and P30 Pro; the Samsung Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10 5G, Note 8

Please Note – Google says you can expect to see flight and hotel reservations, Live View (in countries where Street View is available), and the new Timeline on your phones in the coming weeks.

In the bid to become the proverbial ‘one-stop-shop’, Google also announced a number of other updates. To see more about these new updates, please click here.
