5 Ways Twitter Can Work For Your Business

It is highly unlikely that Twitter has not had some type of impact on your life. Whether your experience relates to using a personal Twitter account, seeing friends or family members update the world about their life via their account or seeing a story on the news, Twitter is everywhere!

But are you using it for your business; if not, why not? Below we have outlined 5 ways that Twitter can work for, and benefit, your business.

  1. Microblogging. Tell the world what you’re doing, what’s coming up, success stories or ask your followers to get involved. Set quizzes and questions that’ll get people onto your website and sharing your details.
  2. Market research. Want a quick census on a product/decision? Your Twitter audience are your clients; ask their opinion directly and you’ll have the right answer (you will also have made your clients feel valued).
  3. Industry. Following your competitors and other names in your industry is a great way to keep abreast of progress, changes and market trends.
  4. Dealing with praise and complaints. It’s now commonplace for businesses to allow their clients to contact them through Twitter. Praise on Twitter can reap huge benefits in terms of swelling your number of followers. Conversely, if someone complains publicly? You can deal with it instantly – letting everyone know your side of the issue and how you propose to deal with it. People who complain are generally just looking for someone to listen; do that and you’ll turn a negative into a positive every time.
  5. Increase your audience. Twitter has allowed businesses to reach a global client market. The above points will all help you work towards getting your name out there; to potential client sources, you didn’t even know existed. Inciting your existing followers to share your posts and feedback using “#hashtags” will ensure their followers become your followers.

Building The ‘Business/Customer’ Relationship

The relationship between a business and its clients has changed dramatically over the last few years, with a greater emphasis on the flow of information between both parties. Businesses know they can command greater loyalty from their client base if they make them feel involved; clients are more willing to trust a business if they feel that business is trustworthy.

Twitter provides a platform to allow this flow of information. You can let your clients know about upcoming deals or events, interact with people personally (dealing with both praise and grievance) and reach an international audience.

Setting up a Twitter account is easy; follow the URL www.twitter.com, enter your details and you’re away! However, if you don’t have the time to create and maintain your Twitter presence, Footprint can do this all for you.

3 Steps To Social Media Success

To help you navigate your way through the Social Media Jungle, we have drawn up our top 3 tips for success. Whether you are looking to communicate with your customers, other businesses or just to promote a chosen message, Social Media channels offer one the ideal way of getting important content out to the world.

However, despite the easy to use and free nature of modern-day Social Media, it can be all too easy to get a little lost. With our 3 tips below, we think that we can help to guide you in the right direction.

Step No. 1 – Understanding Your Options

With so many Social Media channels available, all with their own individual strengths, it’s important to see which ones may prove to be beneficial for you.

Below is a little cheat sheet for some of the strengths of the common Social Media channels.

Twitter

This is ideal for:

  • Providing to the point updates
  • Communicating with customers
  • Using hashtags to tap into relevant streams

Instagram

This is ideal for:

  • Showing the visual side of your business
  • Reaching a wide audience
  • Targeting a younger generation

Facebook

This is ideal for:

  • Engaging with customers
  • Driving traffic to your website

Please note: The paid social advertising options can be perfect if you have a particular demographic that you would like to target.

Step No. 2 – Do Your Homework

The vast majority of Social Media updates take place in public. Therefore there is absolutely nothing stop you taking a look at what your competitors are doing to see if you can take any inspiration.

Take a look around to find the following information about your competitors Social Media habits:

  • Which channels are they using (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest)
  • Do they engage with customers &/or other business?
  • How frequently do they send out updates

Top Tip – Patience is a virtue! You may be raring to go but a little bit of homework can go a long way.

An Instagram Account

Step No. 3 – Don’t Be Shy

Now that you’re ready to go, go for it! Sitting back and waiting for things to happen is very unlikely to work!

Get your message out there. Contact potential customers to see if you can help them. What’s the worst that can happen??

Saying Goodbye to Google Plus

With the news of another data leak, the borrowed time that beleaguered platform Google+ faced has been reduced even further and will now close for consumers in April, rather than 4 months later in August as originally planned.

The New Vulnerability

According to Google, the new vulnerability impacted 52.5 million users, who could have had profile information like their name, email address, occupation, and age exposed to developers, even if their account was set to private. Apps could also access profile data that had been shared with a specific user but was not shared publicly.

“We’ve recently determined that some users were impacted by a software update introduced in November that contained a bug affecting a Google+ API. We discovered this bug as part of our standard and ongoing testing procedures and fixed it within a week of it being introduced. No third party compromised our systems, and we have no evidence that the app developers that inadvertently had this access for six days were aware of it or misused it in any way.

With the discovery of this new bug, we have decided to expedite the shut-down of all Google+ APIs; this will occur within the next 90 days. In addition, we have also decided to accelerate the sunsetting of consumer Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019. While we recognize there are implications for developers, we want to ensure the protection of our users.”

Next Steps for Consumer Google+

All Google+ APIs will be wound down over the coming days as Google decided to give users ample opportunity to transition off of consumer Google+. Over the next few months, they will issue regular statements with additional information, including ways that data can be safely and securely downloaded to be migrated to other platforms.

A Note for Enterprise Customers

G Suite administrators are always in control of their users’ apps. This ensures that G Suite users can give access only to apps that have been vetted and are trusted by their organization. In addition, we want to reiterate that we will continue to invest in Google+ for enterprise. More details were announced in October.”

What Comes Next?

With the recent updates to the GMB (Google My Business) dashboard, the ability to make posts, share images and provide general information has already ensured that many of the options which were available with G+ are now available elsewhere.

Becoming Mobile Friendly For 2019

The implementation of responsive web design techniques will ensure that your website will display and perform perfectly across a variety of different platforms.

Keeping up with the sheer number of different devices which can be used to a view a website is a difficult job. However, thanks to our ability to create responsive web designs, this is no longer the case. We can help your web visitors achieve the optimum experience regardless of how the visit your website.

As the user switches from their desktop computer to their iPad, the website should automatically switch to accommodate for resolution, image size etc. Essentially, we will ensure that your website has to the technology to automatically adjust to different devices.

What Are The Advantages Responsive Web Design?

  • Associated Costs: Responsive web design ensures that you only have one website rather than many.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Only having one website across all platforms ensures that you will not have to manage multiple web sites.
  • Consistent Experience: Visitors to your website should receive the same high level experience, regardless of the device they use to access it.

Other important advantages include the following:

Improved Search Engine Rankings

Search engines recommend responsive development for mobile website design and favour mobile friendliness in their search engine result page (SERP) rankings. Responsive sites have only one URL and the same HTML code across all devices which make it easier for search engines such as Google to find, index and organise content from a single company site than from two or more sites.  A higher ranking goes hand in hand with increased conversions. A single URL is also easier for users to share and link to.

Reduced Bounce Rates

Today’s customer is nearly always well informed. They will only stick to your content if it’s engaging and if what you’re offering is easily and quickly found. If your web-only site doesn’t translate well to multiple devices such as smart phones and tablets, you can as well forget about sales from numerous potential buyers. Research has it that a website that is not mobile friendly will have an immediate bounce rate of about 40%.

All in all, there can be little doubt that the creation of a responsive web design is certainly beneficial. With Google even penalising websites which are not responsive in mobile search results, we certainly recommend the creation of a responsive website for all our clients.
