How To Grow Your YouTube Channel
For creators who are looking to take their channels to the next level but aren’t sure where to start, this is for you. We’ll take you deeper into analytics, explain search science, and more.

Want to know why your recent video is blowing up? Understanding the way in which your viewers find your videos can help. Learn how YouTube makes recommendations and what factors influence your impressions.
Your audience and the algorithm
Insider tip: The algorithm doesn’t pay attention to videos, it pays attention to viewers. So, rather than trying to make videos that’ll make an algorithm happy, focus on making videos that make your viewers happy.
YouTube tracks what viewers watch, how long they watch, what they skip over, and more. This helps us figure out what kind of videos they like best and what we can recommend to them next.
Plan your programming
Things like how long your videos are and how often you post are what we’d call programming. Learn some tips about what tends to work best for attracting and entertaining viewers, how to build a content calendar and more.
Use data to make decisions
Taking a closer look at your channel’s analytics can help you make it better. Use data to get to know your audience and their watching habits, spot opportunities to make money, and more.
With more filters to group and organise your videos, Advanced Mode helps you dig into trends like what type of content your viewers interact with most, what video length works best, and more.
Figure out who your viewers are
Audience analytics can tell you things like what time of day your viewers are on YouTube and if they are new or returning fans, all so that you can get strategic about when and how you post future content.
Keep your content fresh
Even if you have a loyal audience, there’s always the chance that you are missing viewers who would love your channel. Here are some tools and tips that can help you attract new viewers and more of them.
Consider collaborations
Collaborations are a great way to connect with other creators, learn new skills and find more fans for your channel. Get tips on how to choose collaborators and make the most of what you create together.
Try out YouTube Live
YouTube Live is all about connecting with fans in more meaningful ways. If you qualify, you can enable live streaming from your phone, webcam or with an encoder in order to let your fans into your life in real-time.
Keep it fun
Creative burnout is real. Prioritise your well-being by having an honest look at the things that matter most: balance, downtime, having fun and how far to push your creative genius.

How To Get Started On YouTube
YouTube gives creators flexibility so that you can get started filming, sharing and finding your fandoms depending on the way you like to create.

Before your first post
Before you post a single video, you’ll want to set up your channel basics. We’ll cover how to set up and dial in your settings quickly so that you can start creating right away.
Establish your voice
Before you post, think about what voice will define your channel. A good place to start is to ask yourself what you’re interested in, what unique story you’re able to tell, and the viewers who will come along for the ride.
Customise your channel branding
What you choose for your channel name, icon banner and trailer are all that we’d call branding your channel. These decisions affect how your viewers recognise you and get to know your channel, and they’re all easy to customise using our easy tools.
Get set up with a production plan
Before you press record, you’ll want to have a few boxes ticked, from choosing the right equipment to getting the lighting right and more. Choosing the right camera, microphone and even wardrobe can all make sure that filming is a success.
Getting your channel off the ground
Ok, so you’ve created amazing content. Now what? Here are some next steps for posting your videos, getting your first viewers, and planning ahead for how to grow your audience.
Upload in YouTube Studio
Creator Studio is the home base for creators. This is where you’ll post, add metadata, pull analytics, get messages from YouTube, and more. It’s also where you can track your progress towards eligibility in the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP).
Use the Studio mobile app to manage your channel on the go. It’s useful for things like checking your stats, responding to comments, and publishing and managing your videos from your phone.
Organise and create playlists
Once you upload, you can create playlists to guide your viewers through your videos and get to know your channel. Sort by format, date posted and more. Hint: Playlists can help with analytics down the road, too.
Check to see how your video is doing
YouTube Analytics (YTA) shows you the data behind your channel. Analytics can help you make sense of trends, see what’s working (and what’s not) and understand who’s watching your content so that you can plan how you post in the future.
