How To Set Up a LinkedIn Account

LinkedIn is one of the world’s most powerful professional networks. With hundreds of millions of members currently, and growing rapidly, they have adopted the mission to provide an easy method of connecting with like-minded professional people.

LinkedIn can help you:

  • Establish your professional profile and control one of the top search results for your name.
  • Build and maintain your professional network.
  • Find and reconnect with colleagues and classmates.
  • Learn about other companies, and gain industry insights.
  • Find other professionals in the same industry using groups.
  • Share your thoughts and insights through LinkedIn’s long-form publishing platform.
  • Tap into the knowledge of your network.
  • Discover new career opportunities by searching for jobs.

How To Set Up a LinkedIn Profile

The good news is that if this platform sounds of some interest to you, the signing up process could not be much easier. Simply follow the

  1. Navigate to the LinkedIn sign up page.
  2. Type your first and last name, email address, and a password you’ll use.
  3. Click Join now.

Please Note – You must use your true name when creating a profile. Company names and pseudonyms are not allowed, as explained in LinkedIn’s User Agreement.

Creating a LinkedIn Company Page

LinkedIn Company Page helps others learn more about your business, brand, products and services, and job opportunities.

Note: You must first create a LinkedIn profile with your real first and last name before you can complete the below steps to create a Company Page.

To create a Company Page:

  1. Click the  Work icon in the top right corner of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click  ‘Create a Company Page’.
  3. Enter your Company Name and choose a URL. All Company Page URLs will structured as linkedin.com/company/
    [YOUR COMPANY NAME].
    • While the name of your Company Page doesn’t need to be unique, the public URL for your page cannot be the same as one that exists on LinkedIn. LinkedIn members and search engines will use this unique URL to find your page.
    • Please review the Company Page URL requirements below.
  4. Check the verification box to confirm you have the right to act on behalf of that company in the creation of the page.
  5. Click the Create page button.
    • If you don’t have a confirmed email address associated with your LinkedIn account, you’ll be prompted to add and verify your email address.
  6. Click Get started on the welcome screen to begin editing your Company Page.

Your Company Page URL:

  • Must contain at least one non-numeric character.
  • Can be a lowercase alphabet, numeric, hyphen, or Chinese, Japanese, or Korean (CJK) Unicode.
  • Must not include more than one consecutive hyphen (i.e. company–name) and can’t have a hyphen at the beginning or end (i.e. -company-name or company-name-).

Any improper characters will be automatically replaced with a hyphen.

To publish your Company Page you must include a company description (250-2000 characters including spaces) and company website URL. Keep in mind that a preview of your Company Page is not available. When you publish the page, it is live on our website.

Vero? What Is Vero??

By now, even if you haven’t already signed up, there’s a great chance that you have at least heard of Vero. A new social networking app which has promised to be “less media, more social”, it really has come out of nowhere.

What Actually Is Vero?

Vero has actually been around for approximately 3 years but thanks to a huge push last weekend, has doubled its number of users to nearly 1 million in just a few days.

Vero is a phone based app which is essentially trying to provide a cross between Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Spotify but with one major difference. Vero states that it does not manipulate or curate the feed of its users. Instead posts are sorted chronologically, instead of via algorithms.

This has proven to be a major attraction for many people who have become increasingly frustrated by recent changes to Instagram and Facebook’s recent algorithm changes.

Whilst the jury is out on the potential for business use, a social network for anyone who loves anything enough to share it – and would like control over who they share it with, definitely sounds appealing.

How To Sign Up?

Available as a downloadable app from both the Apple & Google stores, installing Vero to your phone is a simple process. Simply search for ‘Vero’, download the app and follow the instructions. You will need to link the app to either your phone or e-mail address in order to receive a verification code but the process only takes a couple of minutes.

Please Note – At the time of writing the app is currently free to download on the App Stores but the plan is to introduce an annual subscription fee at some point.

How To Set Up Your Own Instagram Account

The next instalment of our series of articles helping our followers to set up new Social Media accounts with the minimum of fuss relates to Instagram.

A hugely popular Social Media channel, Instagram is primarily used as a visual aid and allows users to post photos and images which can be displayed as taken or have filters applied (via the app) to help enhance the image.

As opposed to other Social Media channels such as Facebook and Twitter which can easily be updated via laptop and desktop devices as well, Instagram can only be updated via mobile and smart devices.

Setting Up Your Account

To create an Instagram account from the app:

  1. Download the Instagram app for iOS from the App Store, Android fromor Windows Phone from the Windows Phone Store.
  2. Once the app is installed, tap  to open it.
  3. Tap Sign Up With Email or Phone Number, then enter your email address or phone number (which will require a confirmation code) and tap Next. You can also tap Log in with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account.
  4. If you register with your email or phone number, create a username and password, fill out your profile info and then tap Done. If you register with Facebook, you’ll be prompted to log into your Facebook account if you’re currently logged out.

Although you do not have the option to upload images to your new account via your computer, you can actually create your account via your computer.

To create an Instagram account from a computer:

  1. Go to Instagram.com.
  2. Enter your email address, create a username and password or click Log in with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account.
  3. If you register with an email, click Sign up. If you register with Facebook, you’ll be prompted to log into your Facebook account if you’re currently logged out.

If you sign up with email, make sure you enter your email address correctly and choose an email address that only you can access. If you log out and forget your password, you’ll need to be able to access your email to get back into your Instagram account.
